Christine Ruder
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
As a young girl, I often found myself “teaching” my dolls, not realizing that education would eventually become my true calling. It wasn’t until college, when I began working at a daycare, that everything changed. One little girl inspired me to shift my path—I withdrew from my Physical Therapy courses and enrolled in Education and Special Education.
During my studies, I worked as a Para-Educator in the Special Education classroom at Wilson Elementary School, an experience that further confirmed my passion for supporting individuals with diverse needs. After earning my Bachelor of Science, I moved to Arizona and began teaching Special Education. I loved my career deeply, and with every student I taught, my passion only grew stronger.
While teaching, I realized I wanted greater freedom to create lessons and experiences tailored to each individual’s unique goals. That led me to discover Therapeutic Recreation, where I earned my second Bachelor of Science degree. Through this field, I found the perfect way to blend creativity, purpose, and individualized support.
My vision grew into Ability Recreation, a company dedicated to serving people of all ages and abilities. I believe in meeting every client where they are, designing interventions that help them succeed, and creating opportunities that make their goals possible. If there’s a want, I will do my best to make it happen—because every person deserves the chance to play, grow, and thrive.
